We called ourselves “Team Tang-o.” 🤍

My beloved grandfather — immigrated to the US alone at 22 with $200 in his pocket… went from selling sweaters & faux flowers to quickly building a successful commercial real estate business… built a renown reputation for his profound wisdom, sharp intellect, good heart & integrity (he could make deals solely on a handshake because people valued his word like gold)… brought over 23 family members from China, impacting 4 generations & helped them also build successful careers & loving families… & carved out a beautiful legacy of deep sacrifice, rich wisdom & abundant love.

He instilled in me a love for music & dance; taught my sister and I how to exercise wisdom in investments, finance & relationships (having 60+ year friendships) & modeled for us how to give generosity & love selflessly, as God does for us.

In Exodus 31:1, God told Moses he anointed a man named Bezalel with His Spirit, wisdom, abilities & intelligence to design the tabernacle as a place to worship God.

Similarly, the Lord entrusted & equipped my grandfather with the same — not so he would be praised, but so GOD would be GLORIFIED. 🙌🏼 Even when he hugged me close, it felt like the Spirit of God surged through his veins… He was a well of wisdom, herald of righteousness & vessel of divine love.

We spent his last 21 hrs on earth singing & praying over him, holding him tight, until he was tight in Jesus’ arms. We witnessed him raising his arms to the song “I See Heaven” 😭 And at 4:30am on 12/30, he waltzed into heaven to his favorite song, Edelweiss… a beautiful, peaceful & holy moment.

I’ve never been more in awe of Jesus’ sacrifice so we would have the promise of eternal glory with Him. 🙌🏼 Never been more proud of him, or more humbled God chose me as his granddaughter. Never been more excited to waltz together again one day, in the glorious presence of God. 🤍

People are surprised to hear that I’ve actually always wanted my little sister to get engaged and married first. 🤍 I’ve wanted this for her for so long!

And that day finally came!!!! 😍💍
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Who knew the Lord had specifically chosen this kind-hearted, strong, courageous, Christ-honoring, man of integrity, Alaska-based military captain for our girl!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
From a God-appointed meeting in the two-week window between coming home from Syria and moving to base in Alaska… a two-year long distance relationship of handwritten letters, special trips, family FaceTimes, and sweet, romantic gestures… (@hallmarkchannel you have your next movie right here.)

I’ve been thinking. We’ve weathered a full year of the pandemic, and we’ve all tried our best to adapt. But, there’s one thing we shouldn’t adapt to:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We weren’t made to permanently live in physical, emotional & spiritual isolation.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We were created for community, to freely dwell with God & people in a life-giving garden of abundance + paradise!!! 🌿 And while we may live outside of Eden, our purpose & image-bearing mission (Gen 1:28) still remain.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✨So, how can we still grow life-giving relationships after a year of social distancing?!✨
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Let’s look at God’s relationship with us: He took dust from the earth and breathed it into life. Then, He told Adam to steward the life around him. Just as God breathed life into us, we are called to breathe life into others! 🌱
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But what does it mean to “breathe life?” The Garden of Eden was the center of life. Life is fruitful, multiplies, and is full of abundance. It seeks the light & creates true beauty.✨ It is firmly rooted, always growing, & strengthens through resistance.💪🏼
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🌟 We can’t grow healthy, life-giving relationships until our FIRST relationship with God (the Author of Life) is alive and growing! 🌟
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A life-giving relationship is firmly rooted in the Lord. Daily inhaling the Holy Spirit, absorbing His light for all sustenance. Exhaling His love to those around us. Growing stronger through storms. Keeping our focus upwards👆🏼and our reach outwards. 👉🏼
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Our family, friends, colleagues, neighbors, IG followers, and YEP — even the masked strangers six feet apart from us in line — are ALL within our range of influence and impact. We can choose to either exhale our feelings & frustrations (which depend on how we feel in that moment), OR choose to bear the image of God & steward the life around us well! 🌿🙌🏼
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Who else is ready to “breathe life” back into the world! 🙋🏻‍♀️

It was never about us!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“I can do all things through Him who gives me strength.” (Philippians 4:13)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Or — more accurately in the Greek translation:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“I can overcome and wield power over all through HIM who helps me endure with strength.” 💪🏼

Hard to believe it’s almost been a year since our world turned upside down ... How is God helping you endure?

Have you noticed this too?? We live in a “scarcity” culture that twists and distorts our value into thinking we’re never enough. Ever since the Garden of Eden — we’ve been deceived into doubting God’s words, lusting after the one thing we don’t have, and covering ourselves with shame.

But our God is a God of abundance, life, and multiplication. 🌿 It’s who He is — and since we were created in the “image of God” — that is also who we are! 🙌🏼 We were designed for freedom, abundance, and holy intimacy with God! To spiritually multiply His image across the earth!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Virtuous Magazine and “Let There Be Light” are both aligned in our missions to call out women for who they already are, and who they were divinely designed to be. When we invite God in to “let there be light” in our lives, then we will realize our purpose of “virtue” to reflect and uphold everything He is! 🤍 Holiness, purity, grace, sacrifice, boldness, wisdom, and love. 🕊
